Latest QSI 1.0.0.4 driver just does not work!!!!!

#26272

Title says it all. Latest QSI 1.0.0.4 driver will not connect to my QSI660wsg camera bought brand new in April of 2014. It won't connect to Nebulosity version 4.3 or SGPro version 3.1.0.313. It's plain junk.

QSI versions 1.0.0.3 or 7.4.1824.0 still work fine.

My apologies. I didn't realized I need to connect as ASCOM camera. It appears to work with Nebulosity and SGPro.
Once again I apologize for making incorrect statements.
To everyone else, to use newest driver, you must use capture program's ASCOM camera. For SGPro, there don't appear to be ASCOM camera settings but seems to work. I guess SGPro developer designed it a little differently even though it's supposed to use ASCOM driver.

I take back my last statement. It turned out I un-installed 1.0.0.4 and installed 1.0.0.3 and thought I was still using 1.0.0.4.
Anyway, I uninstalled 1.0.0.3 and re-installed 1.0.0.4 driver and used Nebulosity to try to connect to my QSI camera as ASCOM camera and selected 'QSI Camera' or 'QSI Camera 2' and would not connect.
Likewise SGPro won't connect to my QSI 660wsg camera either.
Any advice for 1.0.0.4 driver?

Hi Peter. I guess my first suggestion is that you calm down and try to work through the problem systematically. There are some useful tools provided as part of the ASCOM installation that can help, all located in the ASCOMPlatform6Tools folder under Program Files (x86). After being sure you're running the latest ASCOM platform release and being sure the installer for the QSI camera drivers ran without errors, you can run the ASCOM.Diagnostics.exe app. That will sort through all the drivers and internal components of the ASCOM environment on your system and flag any problems in its log file. You'll want to look specifically for anything having to do with the QSI ASCOM driver. Then you can open the DriverConnect64 folder and run the ASCOM.DriverConnect.Exe tool and try connecting to the camera that way. This strips things down to the absolute basics - an ASCOM tool connecting to an ASCOM driver. Just be sure you're choosing the right driver names.
You haven't said what app you've been using to try connecting, but it's possible the problem is in the app. Imaging apps like MaximDL use plug-ins and those may not be compatible. I haven't upgraded my QSI driver and I don't plan to so I can't be more specific.
Good luck,

Nebulosity version 4.3
See: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/QSI-ccd/conversations/messages/26460
Please read carefully before posting.
I am not going through a diagnostic as you suggested because it has to work for the first time for any capture programs that has worked for years. I really don't need to calm myself down for that. I have been imaging for the last 10 years and have been awarded for APOD with my QSI 660wsg camera. The driver does not need to be this complicated for me to figure out how to use the driver. I ALWAYS use the latest and greatest software and that includes ASCOM 6.4SP1.
So if QSI driver 1.0.0.4 works for you, how did you get it working and what capture software are you using?
If you have not upgraded QSI driver, why bother suggesting to run diagnostics in the first place or even post your message? I implore you to try out QSI 1.0.0.4 driver and if you have problems, please complain.
Forgive me for my rants.

You're entirely correct, I should have ignored your posts which is what I'll do henceforth.

Peter,

Ithink I recall recent discussions on the SGP Forum about changes the user mustmake to get SGP to connect to QSI cameras. I no longer use SGP so I amsorry I don’t remember the specifics, but if you search recent posts there, youmay find the answer for connecting your QSI 660 wsg.

I didget a sense from browsing the posts there that I would not benefit from“upgrading” to the latest driver.

SorryI don’t have more details to provide, but maybe the SGP forum canhelp.

Goodluck.

I have brought this attention to SGP forum but SGP developers basically said to contact QSI. I also asked them how they were able to connect SGP to QSI latest driver but they have not yet responded.

I connected my QSI camera with Voyager software using 1.0.0.4 driver and it seems to work but it's not reliable and I don't want to go into details. So I reverted back to QSI legacy driver and works fine.
But 1.0.0.4 driver is very buggy when trying to connect to Nebulosity or SGP. 98% of the time it would not connect at all to camera and filter wheel.

Method 1: Update PCI device driver via Device Manager Method 2: Update PCI device driver Manually Method 3: Update PCI device driver Automatically (Recommended) Method 1. Update PCI device driver via Device Manager. The yellow exclamation mark next to certain device problem can usually be fixed with an appropriate and matched device driver. Option 1: Update PCI Serial Port driver via Device Manager 1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box. 2)Type devmgmt.msc in the box and hit Enter to open Device Manager. 2) Right-click on PCI Serial Port in Other devices section. RE: PCI serial port driver download issues Jump to solution So if I understand your answer the 'PCI serial port driver' has nothing to do with the actual operation of the serial port on the machine and it's absence would not have caused the serial port to stop communication. Download pci port devices driver. Once you know the manufacturer and model of the serial port, you should be able to find the driver for it. If at all possible, avoid third-party driver download sites. Look for the website of the device manufacturer.

Hello all,

Thanks for letting us know about the problems you arehaving; our intention wasn't to release this driver quite yet but it wasbrought forward by the post in the SGP forum. v1.0.0.4 is really intended as arelease for the users of the complimentary QSI edition of SGP to allow them toconnect to their cameras. Driver v 1.0.0 3 is still the recommended driver forQSI users to use.

We are looking into the reported errors with v1.0.0.4 andare looking to resolve them as soon as possible.

Best regards

Vince

Vince,
Thanks for looking into this. I suggest remove downloading 1.0.0.4 driver from QSI web site.

I have not tried recently but a month or so back I tried the new drivers (both) and they totally broke any ability to use the camera. I decided to give up and go back to old everything until this can be fixed.
#26391

Well, I guess the old saying 'If it ain't broken, don't fix it' applies even today.

The History and Origins of QSI

Sanaa International School opened in September 1971 with four students and grew to over 200 within a few years. The school’s early history is related to the founder’s first assignment in Yemen. In 1966-67, Mr. James E. Gilson was employed as principal of the Yemen-American Cooperative School in Taiz, Yemen. In May of 1967, the American community was evacuated and the school ceased operations. Mr. Gilson, encouraged by the friendliness and hospitality of the people of Yemen, and interested in their culture and history as well as the development of the young republic, had a desire to return. In 1971, after discussions with key people in Sanaa, it became apparent that there was a need for an international school. Therefore, Mr. Gilson accepted a position in Saudi Arabia, hired a teaching couple to go to Yemen, and was able to financially guarantee the first year of Sanaa International School. The school grew to about 25 students in the first year making it possible for Mr. and Mrs. Gilson and their two sons, Marcus and Kevin, to move to Yemen in July 1972.

In 1974, the established AdvisoryBoard composed of leading expatriates and Yemenis, joined by a few others inSanaa, met and formulated the school’s Articles of Organization and By-Laws.This established the school as a non-profit organization and formed a Board ofDirectors. Accurate accounting records have been kept throughout theschool’s existence. As a non-profit entity, the school has been able toreceive grants, loans, and land. As early as 1972, it was foreseen that apurpose-built school should be constructed. After three years ofdiscussions and meetings at many levels, the Yemen Government granted theschool its present 35 acres (about 14 hectares) gratis for a period of fiftyyears. Many individuals of the Yemen Government, the American Government, the United Nations, and the German Government gave considerable assistance intime and influence to obtain land that was occupied on 22 December 1976. Construction began on 1 January 1977. A formal agreement with theYemen Government was signed on 7 May 1977 that included the land grant. Thebuilding program and site development included the school buildings, two waterwells, one residential home, a workshop, and playground development. In thefall of 1992, a new domed carpeted auditorium/sports area was put into use.

The educational program has progressed from the philosophy brought by the first teachers to a structured performance-based model first implemented in the fall of 1987 in the secondary section. By the autumn of 1989, the entire school was performance-based. Formal accreditation was granted by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools on 24 April 1987. The most important key to the school’s success is the dedicated and caring staff the school had during its year of operation. The school was closed at the end of the 2014-15 school year due to the danger of foreign staff being kidnapped. As a civil war developed, the domed carpeted building was destroyed by a Saudi Arabian bomb on 29 December 2015. It happened in the evening and the custodian had departed about 30 minutes earlier, thus no one was injured. The school remains closed due to the situation in Yemen.

Quality Schools International has a more recent history. In 1991, the political structure of the world began a rapid transition. Great changes took place in the former USSR and in areas formerly under its sphere of influence. Combining this recent history with experience in the school restructuring process leading to higher success in schools, QSI was launched. Mr. Duane Root and Mr. James Gilson co-founded Quality Schools International as a non-profit educational organization with a view to opportunities in education in new countries. On 13 May of 1991, Mr. Gilson traveled to Albania to have a look at a country just emerging from over 45 years of dictatorial rule. During his time there, he met some key people in the Tirana community and made a decision to begin Tirana International School. Continuing expansion has resulted in an organization that today offers excellence in education in 31 different countries.
